Assignment 2.1
Due Date: October 11, 2005
In this assignment, you should choose a relevant, timely, controversial issue and produce a blog post summarizing both the issue and your opinion on it. An acceptable issue should be:
- Drawn from a news article found on CNN's website between 9/29/05 and the due date
- An issue on which you can imagine reasonable people arguing from various points of view
- A debatable issue. For example, the news that scientists have photographed a giant squid is not sufficiently debatable; acceptably "debatable" issues include things like whether the adulterers should be legally culpable, however, or who should be responsible for paying for reconstruction following the recent disastrous hurricanes.
- Something you want to stick with for the rest of Unit 2.
Assignment 2.1 will consist of a post of no less than 3 paragraphs to your blog, which gives a brief summary of the issue, incorporating a link to the CNN article, and presents and justifies your stance. A successful post will clearly encapsulate the facts of the issue and present your opinion in a well-supported, rational way.
